Children’s University
What is Children's University?
Described by the Sunday Times as ‘The University of Fun’, Children’s University is a critically acclaimed, extra-curricular programme which takes learning outside the classroom; we encourage children to try new experiences; develop new interests; discover unknown talents; acquire new skills and hone existing ones. CU operates across the UK and, more recently, has expanded internationally: Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and the Netherlands with further developments in the pipeline. In Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre, the local Children’s University has been very successful and in 2013/14 over 3000 students participated from 37 schools.
How Does it Work?
Children attend diverse menus of learning activities, everything from lectures about chemistry of fireworks to street dance workshop. Museums, sports venues, universities and afterschool clubs to name a few. Recognition of effort and achievement is central to the programme’s success and each time a participant completes a learning activity they receive a credit equivalent to the number of hours (1 hour of learning equals 1 credit). Once sufficient credits have been accrued the young person is awarded a certificate of achievement – there are three levels: undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate – which are presented to him/her at a CU graduation ceremony modelled on the ‘grown up’ version.

Graduations
We will host our graduation event on 18th June 2020, location to be confirmed. This event will be modelled on the graduation ceremonies at university. Children will wear a special cap and gown for the event and there will be opportunities for the families to attend and take pictures, making the day a memorable day in your child’s life.
