Eco School

Our Eco Flag Award was up for renewal in the Summer Term of 2019. On the 1st July 2019, we had a ‘Green Flag’ assessor who assessed our school to see if St John Vianney could maintain our Green Flag Award. We took our visitor on a tour of the school and the school grounds. Our Eco Coordinator and Eco Committee discussed each element of the Green Flag Award and what our school does to target each element. The assessor commented on how friendly, caring and enthusiastic the children were about sustainability in our school. The assessor contacted our school two days after our visit to tell us that we had achieved our second Green Flag Award!

St John Vianney was awarded the Green Flag in the last week of the summer term 2017. Eco Schools praised all our time and effort that has been invested in environmental education at school. "Your award  is well deserved and reflects the hard work the school has put into the programme so far."

"The strenghts appear to be the love of their environment, the caring for each other and the high thinking and analysing skills of the Eco-

Committee. They have good links with other Eco-Schools and sharing good practice. Well done and keep up the great work."

Wyre Estuary Bioblitz

The Eco Committee went to the Wyre Estuary Bioblitz on Friday. The children were engaged in lots of lovely activities- fresh water pond investigation, shark identification, making 'bug houses', owl pellet dissection, a nature walk and painting pictures from nature to make key rings.

There were estuary staff to talk to us and we found out loads of information.

We had a lovely, fun, hands on experience and the children said it was one of the best trips they had been on. The children's behaviour was impeccable and commented on by the staff.

As it was the opening ceremony, we even featured on the Wyre Estuary website, check us out!
